On Saturday 21st March two teams from Cambridgeshire travelled to the 1st NSSA double handed racing championships at Farmoor Reservoir near Oxford to join teams from Oxford, Abingdon & Sevenoaks. The format for the day was to be a two round robin series with two semi finals, final and 3/4th sail off.

The teams from Oxford & Sevenoks soon showed their team racing experience by taking an early lead, however the Cambs 1 team managed to score an early success against Cambs 2. Both teams outsailed the Abingdon team easily.

The first round went to Oxford, Sevenoaks 2nd Cambs 1 3rd, Cambs 2 4th, Abingdon 5th.

After a ten minute break it was straight into round two, with a stronger breeze this time both Oxford & Sevenoaks again got the better of both Cambs teams, however this time Cambs 2 beat Cambs 1 with both teams scoring a easy victory over Abingdon.

So both teams were through to the semi final, Cambs 1 v Oxford and Cambs 2 v Sevenoaks. Both Cambs teams sailed well against these experienced teams but despite some good attempts to gain the advantage they were outsailed.

The 3/4th place sail off was therefore between the two Cambs teams, The race was close but Cambs 1 just got the advantage and took the win, Unfortunately for Cambs 1 it was the best of 3! The second race went to Cambs 2 after some more close racing. In the 3rd race Cambs 2 gained an early advantage and despite their best efforts Cambs 1 were unable to close the gap and Cambs 2 won 3rd place.

The final between Oxford & Sevenoaks went to 2 races with Oxford winning both convincingly.

As the highest place non BSDRA team, the Cambs 2 Team will represent the NSSA at the BSDRA team racing championships at the end of June.
